Lord Of The Isles (Featuring) Ellen Renton
Whities 029
When it comes to evocative, emotion-stirring ambient and electronica, there are few finer exponents of the art than Neil McDonald AKA Lord Of The Isles. With the stunningly beautiful Scottish Highlands on his doorstep, it's perhaps unsurprising that his music is both widescreen and impeccably picturesque. Here he returns after a two-year absence with a surprise appearance on Whities and one of his most magical EPs to date.
Check first the bold, starry chords and echoing electronics of "One Lifetime Is Not Enough For Us", before immersing yourself in the undulating, Tangerine Dream style synthesizer lead lines and drowsy chords of "Waiting In Arisaig". Edinburgh-based poet Ellen Renton provides evocative spoken word vocals on both of the flipside cuts: the slowly shifting ambient melancholia of "Passing" and the spring-fresh, saucer-eyed bliss of "Inheritance".
